Maggots
Maggots are fly larvae that feed on necrotic and dying tissue.Flies deposit their eggs on flesh that is soiled or compromised. Especially at risk are those pets confined outdoors with situations in which their skin remains moist. This includes pets with draining wounds, urine or fecal stained hair coats, or bacterial skin infections. Matted hair is a good breeding ground. The eggs hatch and the larvae develop, eating their hosts' flesh through three stages of development before they drop out of the wound to pupate in the soil.
