Grass Awns & Foxtails
Warmer weather brings flowers, grass, and...foxtails. Foxtails or grass awns are a big problem in the spring and summer. Foxtails can attach to your pets fur and work their way under the skin, into the ears, eyes, mouth, paws, and genitals. To help stop this from happening be sure to check your animals after they have been outside. Be sure to give your pet shorter summer haircuts and daily brushing to help alleviate this problem.
Signs that you pet may have foxtails may include constant shaking of the head, scratching or biting in a particular area, or biting at areas of their body. If you pet does have foxtails they will need to be removed under general anesthesia by a veterinarian.
